Digital signatures use cryptographic certificates to verify document authenticity and integrity. They're legally binding in many jurisdictions.

Creating a Digital Signature

  1. Go to Tools → Certificates → Digitally Sign
  2. Select or import your digital certificate (.p12 or .pfx file)
  3. Draw the signature field on the document
  4. Enter your certificate password
  5. The signature is applied with a timestamp

Certificate Types

  • Self-signed: Create your own for internal use
  • Commercial: Purchase from a Certificate Authority for legal validity
  • Enterprise: Issued by your organization

Creating a Self-Signed Certificate

  1. Go to Tools → Certificates → Create Self-Signed Certificate
  2. Enter your name and email
  3. Set a password
  4. The certificate is saved to your Keychain

Verifying Signatures

Reedio automatically verifies digital signatures when you open a signed document.

Signature Status

  • Valid: Signature is authentic and document unchanged
  • Invalid: Document modified after signing
  • Unknown: Certificate not recognized or expired

Viewing Signature Details

  1. Click the signature panel icon in the document
  2. Or go to Tools → Certificates → Verify Signatures
  3. View signer identity, timestamp, and certificate details

Flatten Signatures

Flattening permanently embeds signatures into the PDF. This prevents further modification but makes signatures unverifiable.

Use File → Save as Flattened when sharing the final version.

Tips

  • Save your form before closing to preserve data
  • Use drawn signatures for quick, informal signing
  • Use digital signatures for legal documents
  • Keep your certificate password secure
  • Back up your certificates - you can't recover a lost private key
