Navigate PDFs naturally with trackpad gestures. Reedio supports all standard macOS gestures plus some PDF-specific controls.

Trackpad Gestures

Pinch to Zoom

Pinch outward with two fingers to zoom in; pinch inward to zoom out. The zoom centers on your cursor position.

Tip: Adjust zoom speed in Preferences for finer control.

Two-Finger Scroll

Scroll up and down through your document with two fingers. In continuous view, this scrolls through all pages.

Tip: Adjust scroll speed in Preferences.

Smart Zoom (Double-Tap)

Double-tap with two fingers to fit the page width. Double-tap again to return to the previous zoom level.

Great for quickly zooming to readable size.

Three-Finger Swipe

Swipe left or right with three fingers to navigate between pages. This works in single-page and two-page view modes.

Note: Requires "Three-Finger Swipe" enabled in Preferences.

Rotate Gesture

When an annotation is selected, use a two-finger rotation gesture to rotate it. Useful for stamps and images.

Note: Enable in Preferences (disabled by default).

Mouse Controls

  • Scroll wheel: Scroll through the document
  • ⌘ + Scroll wheel: Zoom in/out
  • Click and drag: Select text or move annotations
  • Right-click: Context menu with options
  • Double-click: Select word or open annotation for editing

Apple Pencil (iPad)

When using Reedio on iPad, Apple Pencil is fully supported:

Gesture Preferences

Customize gesture behavior in Reedio → Preferences → Gestures:

  • Pinch to Zoom: Enable/disable and adjust speed
  • Two-Finger Scroll: Enable/disable and adjust speed
  • Smart Zoom: Enable/disable double-tap zoom
  • Three-Finger Swipe: Enable/disable page navigation
  • Rotate Gesture: Enable/disable for annotation rotation

System Gesture Settings

Some gestures are controlled by macOS System Settings:

  1. Open System Settings → Trackpad
  2. Check "Scroll & Zoom" for pinch and smart zoom
  3. Check "More Gestures" for swipe navigation

Troubleshooting

Gestures not working?

  • Check that gestures are enabled in System Settings → Trackpad
  • Verify Reedio gesture preferences are enabled
  • Make sure no other apps are overriding trackpad gestures

Zoom too fast or slow?

  • Adjust Zoom Speed slider in Preferences → Gestures
  • Values below 1.0 slow down; above 1.0 speed up

Three-finger swipe changes apps instead of pages?

  • In System Settings → Trackpad → More Gestures
  • Set "Swipe between full-screen apps" to use four fingers
  • This frees three-finger swipe for in-app navigation
