Getting Started with Reedio

Welcome to Reedio! This guide will help you get up and running with the essential features of your new PDF editor.

Opening PDF Documents

There are several ways to open a PDF in Reedio:

  • Drag and drop: Drag a PDF file onto the Reedio icon in the Dock or onto the app window
  • File menu: Choose File → Open (⌘O) and select a PDF
  • Right-click: Right-click a PDF in Finder and choose Open With → Reedio
  • Set as default: Set Reedio as your default PDF viewer in Finder's Get Info panel

Interface Overview

The Reedio interface is designed to be clean and intuitive:

Toolbar

The main toolbar at the top provides quick access to view modes and common actions. Click the mode buttons to switch between:

  • Read: Focus on reading with minimal distractions
  • Annotate: Access highlighting, drawing, and note tools
  • Edit: Modify text, images, and links
  • Organize: Manage pages - rotate, delete, reorder

Left Sidebar

Toggle the left sidebar (⌥⌘0) to access:

  • Thumbnails: Visual page navigation
  • Outline: Document table of contents
  • Bookmarks: Your saved locations
  • Annotations: List of all annotations in the document

Right Panel

When using annotation or editing tools, the right panel shows tool-specific options like color, thickness, and font settings.

Navigation

Navigate through your document using:

  • Scroll: Two-finger scroll or mouse wheel
  • Page arrows: Click the arrows in the toolbar or use ⌘↑/⌘↓
  • Go to Page: Press ⌥⌘G to jump to a specific page
  • Thumbnails: Click a thumbnail to jump to that page
  • Outline: Click outline items to navigate to sections

View Options

Customize how you view documents:

Page Layout

  • Single Page (⌘1): One page at a time
  • Two Pages (⌘2): Side-by-side pages
  • First Page Single (⌘3): Cover page alone, then pairs
  • Continuous (⌘4): Scroll through all pages

Themes

Reduce eye strain with reading themes (View → Theme):

  • Light: Clean white background, classic appearance
  • Dark: Dark gray background with light text
  • Night Sky: Deep navy blue for comfortable night reading
  • Sepia: Warm, paper-like tone for extended reading
  • Mint: Fresh, calming green-tinted theme

Zoom

  • Zoom In: ⌘+ or pinch outward
  • Zoom Out: ⌘- or pinch inward
  • Fit Page: ⇧⌘9
  • Fit Width: ⇧⌘0
  • Actual Size: ⌘0

Saving Your Work

Reedio automatically saves your annotations when you close a document. You can also:

  • Save: ⌘S to save immediately
  • Save As: ⇧⌘S to save a copy with a new name
  • Save as Flattened: Permanently embed annotations into the PDF
